The incumbent manages portions if the installation, configuration and administration of UNIX operating systems in support a large mission critical clinical applications in High Availability environments. The incumbent is also an expert UNIX resource for other department members. Individual should have demonstrated UNIX expertise and High Availability computing administration skills.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the management, support, monitoring, and troubleshooting of department UNIX systems and environments.
- Performs routine and complex system maintenance tasks, including hardware and software upgrades, system recovery, and performance tuning.
- Creates and maintains development and production environments for specialized systems including Cerner HNA Millennium, and Epic. Provides tools and support for department staff.
- Installs system and application hardware and software. Assists in the analysis and purchase decisions of vendor products. Works with vendors on product upgrades, maintenance, and support.
- Monitors system security and performance; troubleshoots security probes and hardware and software errors. Performs system vulnerability scanning.
- Investigates and provides information to technical and project leads about operating system and utilities features and limitations.
- Designs and codes programs and scripts. Follows industry recommendations and department programming standards to ensure code efficiency. Troubleshoots and repairs existing scripts and provides input on code fixes and alternative solutions.
- Adequately documents and maintains change management control of all scripts and programs written.
- Attends team meetings, and communicates (verbally and in writing) programming and system issues to appropriate staff and customers. Presents findings, recommendations, and specifications both verbally and in writing. Provides time and resource estimates to managers for new projects as well as problem resolution.
- Tests applications and analyzes program output and error logs.
- Designs and implements environments in support of mission critical applications required to be highly available using Veritas Cluster Server and HACMP.
- Continuously looks for system weaknesses and ways to improve on that which is currently implemented.
- Occasionally participates in a virtual team in troubleshooting efforts that involve diverse departmental groups.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to develop a complete set of architectural views for an enterprise in accordance with common architecture frameworks.
- Strong business analysis skills and experience, including development of business vision and strategies, functional decomposition, requirements capture, process modeling.
- Experience with systems of systems architecture development, partitioning of functionality among applications and components, and application interfaces/interoperability concerns.
- Experience in software development methodologies and structure approaches to system development.
- Awareness of systems management and operational support tools.
- Must be proficient acting in and leading integrated process teams, as well as coordinating and communicating customer requirements.
- Comfortable leading a team of professionals within the business, applications/systems, data/information and technical architecture disciplines.
- Must have excellent communications skills to be able to clearly explain the benefits of an architectural approach to clients and stakeholders.
- Must have a broad and diverse background in such areas as business analysis, applications/systems engineering and information operations/architectures.
- Experience with Solaris, AIC and Linux systems administration, TCP/IP protocols, Oracle network communications.
- Experience with Storage Area Networks and High Availability environments including volume management utilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
- Five to Eight years of experience in systems engineering.
Qualifications (Preferred):
- Knowledge of SAP Business Objects BI Platform installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Apache HTTPD installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Apache Tomcat installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting
- Ability to write advanced SQL queries
- Ability to write Java and JSP programs that query the SAP BO BI Platform SDK
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
- Knowledge of application packaging and software delivery
- Current knowledge and background in managing Microsoft servers in a complex heterogeneous environment.
- Knowledge of Oracle
- Experience with Informatica a strong plus
- Experience with Oracle PL/SQL a strong plus
