This position is responsible for operating a telephone console, and various related computer programs for the University Hospital, providing rapid, accurate and courteous telephone communications and paging services. Operating as the physician's answering service and providing efficient service for response to various emergency situations.
This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.
Responsibilities:
- Provides general operator services.
- Operates as the physician's answering service for the University Hospital and clinics.
- Operates as a specialized call center providing telephone support for specific hospital departments, including HCH,UDC, UOC and other select outpatient clinics.
- Delivers and follows-through on all messages in which a page is activated; logs all messages into the appropriate database.
- Assists in locating and alerting the professional staff for trauma and cardiac arrests. Notifies the proper authorities for all other emergency situations.
- Assists dispatchers with testing and documenting C-Arrest pagers, elevator phones, fire drills, hospital codes and other emergency drills.
- Acts as a physician referral service after hours and on weekends.
- Assists hospital staff with Smart Web education, troubleshoots Smart Web issues.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
- Ability to handle emergency situations efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hospital and clinic departments.
Qualifications:
Required
- One year customer service experience.
- Six months of database experience or equivalency.
